CROCHET PATTERN
Appliqué: Leaves
Difficulty: easy

INTRODUCTION
This is a simple leaf to use wherever you like; either as a hanging decoration, or a sewn-on appliqué.
MATERIALS
You will need the basic crochet tools: yarn of chosen weight and matching hook, scissors, and a needle.
In the image I have used a size 1.8 mm hook, and fingering weight yarn, giving leaves the size of 3 cm.
ABBREVIATIONS
CH : Chain
SC : Single crochet
HDC : Half double crochet
DC: Double crochet
TR: Treble crochet
DTR: Double treble crochet
INC: Increase (two crochets in one chain)
PATTERN
-
Slip knot and CH 10.
-
In the 2nd chain from hook SC. Then going down the chain; HDC, DC INC, TR INC, DTR INC, TR and CH2 in the last CH.
-
Slip stitch into foundation stitch (the very first of the work).
-
Now we do the other half of the leaf by repeating step 2 in reverse towards the tip, on the other side of the chain: Slip stitch so the yarn automatically moves to the other side of the center row. CH2 and TR in the same CH, then going back up the foundation chain; DTR INC, TR INC, DC INC, HDC, SC.
-
SC into the tip and finish off with a tail to sew with.
-
Using a needle, thread the end yarn through the middle of the leaf to the starting point.
Done.
Now you can use the yarn ends to tie the leaf somewhere, or for sewing the appliqué onto something.
Personally, I have both made a garland and sewn on patches with these leaves. The patches I've sew straight onto a fleece jacket. The garland I made by tying the leaves onto a length of jute string whilst wrapping it with the same yarn.
