CROCHET PATTERN

Play food: Bell pepper

Difficulty: intermediate

Play food_ Bell pepper

MATERIALS

You will need the basic crochet tools: yarn of chosen weight and matching hook, scissors, a needle, and stuffing.

The bell pepper (aka. paprika) comes in three basic colours: green, red and yellow/orange. So you may choose the colour you want for yours. But you will need some green for the stem at least.

The final size will vary depending on the yarn and hook you use. I made this using a yarn of fingering weight, that I doubled, with a 3.0 mm hook. And my final result was approximately 11 cm, including the stem.

This pattern is worked in the round.

Finish off with a long tail for sewing. First, sew through the last stitches to close the remaining hole. Push the needle through that end to the other, through the magic ring, and pull the yarn over the outside. Repeat 3-4 times to make the bell pepper's iconic sections. (Bell peppers are never identical, so the sections don't need to be perfect). Secure the yarn tightly at one of the ends, so the pepper keeps its shape, and weave in the remains.

STEM

Begin with a magic ring.

Round 1: SC 6 into the magic ring. Slip stitch into the first stitch to make a circle. [6]

Round 2: BLO: SC 6. [6]

Round 3-9: SC 6. [6]

Round 10: FLO: *SC, INC* x3. [9]

Round 11: *INC* x9. [18]

Slip stitch into the next stitch, stuff the stem, and finish off, leaving a tail to sew the stem to the top of the pepper.

Attach the stem, and you're finished!
