CROCHET PATTERN
Play food: Garlic
Difficulty: intermediate

MATERIALS
You will need the basic crochet tools: yarn of chosen weight and matching hook, scissors, a needle, and stuffing.
The final size will vary depending on the yarn and hook you use. I made this using a worsted yarn with a 3.0 mm hook. And my final result was approximately 8x8 cm.
This pattern is worked in the round.
Before we begin, you will need a length of yarn to sew the shape of the garlic with before we finish the body of the bulb: this should obviously be of the same yarn as you make the garlic itself. Cut 6 strands of approximately 30 cm each: they should be long enough to make a slip knot at one end, and sew through the garlic from top to bottom twice, and then tie together with the other strands.
ABBREVIATIONS
Rnd: Round
CH : Chain
SC : Single crochet

Begin to stuff. Do not cut off the yarn. Now we will divide up the sides into cloves with the 6 strands we cut off and saved at the beginning. We do this while we still have an opening to work through, because it's easier to hide the yarn ends and knots, and just make it prettier.
-
Take one strand of your 6 lengths, and tie a slip knot in one end, thread the other end to a needle.
-
Push the needle from the inside of the garlic out through the magic ring at the bottom.
To make the cloves more bulbous, we will take advantage of the visible increases/decreases of our worked rounds, by making those the cloves. So we will pull the dividing thread up on the smooth part of the worked rounds, between the increases/decreases, not straight over them.
-
Push the needle back inside the garlic between round 6 and 7.
-
Pull the needle and thread through the slip knot to anchor the thread. Don't pull it too tight yet, just enough to give the cloves some shape.
-
Push the needle out from inside the garlic between round 13 and 14, and back in between round 6 and 7. Out again between rounds 13 and 14, and then back in between rounds 18 and 19.
-
Now push the needle out again from the magic ring, and pull it from the outside, all the way to the topmost insert at rounds 18-19. Now you may pull it tighter, since this second strand will hide the first.
-
Leave the yarn hanging from the top opening, and repeat this with the remaining 5 strands, dividing the garlic into 6 even sections.
-
Tie the yarn ends together and hide them inside the garlic.
Now, let's finish the garlic bulb. Continue stuffing as you go.
Rnd 22: *SC 3, DEC* x3. [15]
Rnd 23: *SC 2, DEC* x3. [12]
Rnd 24: SC 12. [12]
Rnd 25: *SC 2, DEC* x3. [9]
Rnd 26: *SC, DEC* x3. [6]
Finish off with a short tail to sew together the last stitches and shut the hole. Weave in the end, and you're all done!
